AI search optimization (GEO and AEO)

Turn your expertise into the answer customers find

You already know the answers your customers need. We turn that expertise into pages, profiles and independent sources that ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity can read, check and repeat.

In short. AI search optimization is the work of making your business easy for AI systems to find, understand and recommend. It covers the pages that answer buyer questions, the profiles and directories that describe you, and the independent sources that agree with both. It builds on SEO and does not replace it.

Who it is for. Businesses that win customers when someone compares options: home service contractors, local and multi-location service businesses, and B2B or professional firms. Home service contractors also have a dedicated service.

Where to start. If you want the evidence first, the AI visibility audit records who gets recommended in your market and why. If you want to see how far along you are, the readiness checker scores nine signals in a minute.

What the work covers

Give AI a clear answer to quote.

Each service page opens with a direct answer: what you do, who for, where and roughly what it costs. Assistants and buyers both lift the first clear statement they find, so it needs to be accurate and yours.

Make every business profile tell the same story.

Google Business Profile, Bing Places and the directories your buyers use are matched to your website: the same name, services, categories and service area, so no source contradicts another.

Build evidence beyond your own website.

Trade bodies, suppliers, partners, local press and honest reviews that describe you in their own words. More than one place says what you do and where you do it.

Turn discovery into a reason to choose you.

Being named is the start. Pricing ranges, process, proof of past work and one clear next step turn a mention into an enquiry.

Keep the right crawlers able to read you.

robots.txt, firewall and sitemap are checked for Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot. Search access and training access are separate choices, and we set each one on purpose.

Record the answers every month.

The same buyer questions are asked on all four platforms each month and the answers are saved, so you can see what moved and what moved it.

Four platforms, four ways of being found

The fundamentals are shared, but each platform shows answers in a different place and reads the web in its own way. These are the differences that change the work, in plain terms.

Where the buyer sees the answer, and what each platform needs from you. Sources are linked in the research comparison.
Platform Where the buyer sees it What it needs from you
ChatGPT ChatGPT search answers, with links to the pages it used OAI-SearchBot allowed in robots.txt, a page that answers the question in plain words, and business details that agree everywhere they appear.
Google AI Overviews A summary at the top of some Google results, with links to supporting pages A page Google has indexed and can show with a snippet, written to help the reader, from a business whose details match its Google Business Profile.
Gemini Google's assistant, as its own product The same fundamentals as the others: readable pages, consistent business facts and independent sources that agree with you.
Perplexity Answers with numbered links to their sources PerplexityBot allowed in robots.txt, pages that state facts plainly, and independent sources a reader can check.

Official sources: Google, OpenAI and Perplexity. The full comparison is on the research page.

How progress is measured

What gets recorded, and where the number comes from.
Measure Source
Named in buyer answers The recorded answer on each platform for the same set of questions, re-run every month.
Pages and sources cited The links each platform shows beside its answer, saved with the answer.
Search demand Queries and impressions from Google Search Console, so new pages follow what buyers search for.
Enquiries Calls and form submissions we can count, including any that say how the buyer found you.

How the work is run

  • Every change is tied to a buyer question we recorded and a reason you can read.
  • Pages are written for the buyer first and the machine second.
  • Business facts match everywhere they appear, or the mismatch is on the fix list.
  • Everything we build sits in your accounts and stays yours if we stop.

What we need from you

  • Your website, or the login for whoever edits it.
  • Manager access to your Google Business Profile, and Bing Places if you have it.
  • Google Search Console access for the site.
  • One call about your services, service area, price ranges and the work you want more of.
  • A named person who can approve page copy.

What it costs

Monthly optimization is $1,850 per month, with monthly monitoring included. Scope is agreed in writing before work starts. See the pricing page for the audit, the sprint and standalone monitoring.

Common questions

What is the difference between GEO and AEO?

GEO, generative engine optimization, is about being included in answers that an AI writes. AEO, answer engine optimization, is about shaping a page so a direct answer can be lifted from it. One piece of work serves both, so they are not sold separately.

Do I still need SEO?

Yes. Google says standard SEO practice still applies to its AI features: a page has to be indexed and eligible to appear in Search. The work here builds on that foundation instead of replacing it.

Do you use llms.txt and structured data?

Yes, as supporting infrastructure. Google says no special markup or AI-specific files are required for its AI features, and llms.txt is not a guaranteed way to be cited. We add them because they are accurate and cheap to maintain, not because they decide the outcome.

Should we block GPTBot?

That is a separate decision from search visibility. OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot, used for ChatGPT search results, as separate from GPTBot, used for training. We set robots.txt so each is a choice you made, not a side effect.

How long before we see a difference?

Crawler access and profile fixes can show up within weeks. New pages and independent mentions take longer. Each platform refreshes on its own schedule, so we report what the monthly recordings show rather than name a date.

What does it cost?

Monthly optimization is $1,850 per month, with monthly monitoring included. The pricing page lists the other pieces of work and what sets the final scope.
